Thirty-four people have died as a result of the high temperatures in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, according to health officials.
Xinhua News Agency quoted Jayant Kumar, the chief medical officer, as saying today: “The deaths were reported in a hospital in Palia district, about 412 km southeast of Lacknow, the state capital, where 23 deaths were recorded last Thursday and 11 more deaths yesterday, highlighting that all of the deceased are elderly and suffer from multiple diseases.
The Indian Meteorological Department issued a warning of a severe heatwave over the eastern and central eastern parts of India.
