Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune, following their talks in the Kremlin on Thursday, signed the strategic cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Following the signing ceremony, a press conference was held in which president Putin affirmed that the talks dealt with bilateral relations and regional and international issues and that they were “very fruitful and constructive,” which is confirmed by the signing of a large number of joint documents at the level of governments, municipal authorities and ministries, which aim to strengthen relations in various fields.
Putin stressed that the adoption of this agreement will be the beginning of a new, more developed stage in the relations between the two countries, pointing to Russia’s endeavor to coordinate efforts with Algeria in various international platforms, especially OPEC.
Putin, Tebboune stress Russian-Algerian Relations are strategic
During their talks today in Moscow, Putin and Tebboune discussed bilateral relations between Russia and Algeria, and the various fields of cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, President Putin described, according to “Russia Today” RT website, the relations with Algeria are of special importance and strategic nature for Russia, noting that the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Declaration will contribute to strengthening relations between the two countries.
Putin said, “We in Russia are pleased to see the Algerian President at the Russian-African summit that will be held in Petersburg,” noting that the Russian and Algerian efforts in their multilateral formats contribute, among other things, to the stability of global energy markets.
For his part, President Tebboune said: Western pressure will not affect Algeria’s support for Russia, pointing to the depth of the existing relations and bonds of friendship between the two countries.
Tebboune indicated that the relations between the two countries have not changed at all for 60 years, as Algeria has always supported Russia, adding: “There may be some pressure today from abroad, but this will never affect our relations”.
Tebboune stressed that Algeria had preserved its independence thanks to the support of Russia, which provided it with arms so that it could preserve its independence under difficult circumstances.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced earlier that President Vladimir Putin will sign a number of documents with his Algerian counterpart Abdelmadjid Tebboune today, including an important declaration on the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
