Al-Lahham Urges World Parliaments to Help Fighting Terrorism

Damascus- Addressing speakers of Arab and foreign parliaments, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Speaker of the People’s Assembly, stressed that the al-Qaeda-linked extremist and takfiri groups continue to commit horrible crimes against the Syrian people and target the diverse components of the Syrian society in a blatant threat to human values and international laws agreed upon by all peoples of the world.

In his letters to the Arab and foreign parliaments’ speakers, al-Lahham said those terrorist takfiri groups are being incited by extremist fatwas made by some Arab “sheikhs” sponsored by countries like Qatar and Saudi Arabia, aiming to destroy the Syrian state and the cohesive Syrian society, through explosions and through hitting residential areas, schools, hospitals and transport vehicles with mortar shells that claimed the lives of scores.

Al-Lahham added that “these terrorist groups have escalated terrorist attacks against Christians in Syria, particularly in Damascus, Aleppo and Homs so as to displace them and drive them out of Syria.”

He condemned the silence of the countries, which claim that they care about the security of the Syrian people, over the armed groups’ crimes.

He also condemned the countries which continue to fund and arm terrorists in Syria.

He affirmed that Syria’s future can only be determined by the Syrians themselves through national dialogue and through the implementation of the political program to solve the crisis in Syria.
