With the participation of the Syrian Red Crescent, Activities of the Mediterranean Conference of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies kickstart in Cairo

The 14th Mediterranean Conference of the Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies kicked off in Cairo, with the participation of the head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Eng. Khaled Habubati.
The conference aims to enhance dialogue, strengthen cooperation and reach a better humanitarian response.
During the conference, Habubati presented the humanitarian and economic situation in Syria after years of war and the disaster of the earthquake that struck the country last February, indicating that the Syrian people must be helped to be able to recover.
Habubati pointed out that Syria was subject to the disaster of the earthquake, and in order to be able to rehabilitate the infrastructure, the economic sanctions must be lifted because they impede this rehabilitation, adding: Climate change places additional burdens on societies and threatens their safety, food security and activity.
Habubati stressed that the volunteers of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent are making every effort to alleviate the suffering of people and protect them in various crises and disasters, but the lack of funding forced the organization to exclude 1.5 million people from the circle of assistance, calling for solidarity with the Syrian people to help them work as aid should not be restricted to baskets and food.
Representatives of 26 national societies in the Mediterranean region will discuss at the four-day conference the main humanitarian challenges in the region for the next four years.
