In Al-Suwayda, wheat harvest for the current season has begun, within the areas that are planted early, according to the Directorate of Agriculture.
Director of Agriculture in AL-Suwayda, Eng. Ayham Hamid, stated that the harvesting operations have now begun on limited areas and their pace is gradually increasing in the various main agricultural areas during the next few days. Based on the decision of the Sub-Committee on Fuel, two liters of diesel fuel were allocated for each dunum of rain-fed wheat and 3 liters per dunum irrigated at the subsidized price to support farmers and harvest operations.
For his part, director of the Syrian Grain Corporation’s office in Sweida, Eng. Basil Huneidi, indicated that the preparations for receiving wheat have been completed since the beginning of this month, stressing the provision of facilities for farmers to market their crops.
The areas cultivated with wheat in Al-Suwayda for the current season amounted to about 33,841 hectares.
