First Lady, Mrs. Asma Al-Assad visits the advanced Diagnostic and Radiotherapy Center in Mezzeh, Damascus

“When we have a clear vision, a systematic plan, persistence and determination to overcome all obstacles and challenges, there will be nothing impossible,” with these words, First Lady Asma al-Assad concluded her speech today at the advanced Diagnostic and Radiotherapy Center located in Mezzeh area and affiliated to Al-Bayrouni Hospital.

The Center is witnessing a notable leap at the therapeutic and psychological levels, the most important of which is the introduction of advanced linear accelerator devices into operation, which are considered as one of the most important radiotherapy devices for cancer in the world, due to the accuracy and short duration of treatment.

Thus, Syria takes another big step in confronting cancer within a set of deliberate and planned steps that are successively achieved, through a comprehensive national vision launched by Mrs. Asma Al-Assad, through a national program to control cancer in all its medical, institutional and humanitarian dimensions.

This vision set goals and worked to unify efforts and policies of the concerned sectors, agencies and governmental and private institutions, and to deepen networking and coordination among them. The aim is to reach the highest elements and requirements for dealing with cancer, starting with the capabilities of early detection and accurate diagnosis, treatments and their protocols, building qualified cadres to implement these protocols, and circumventing the blockade to obtain modern devices and medicines required for treatment, leading to the achieved recovery in many cases.

Mrs. Asma Al-Assad was accompanied by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghabbash, the Chairman of the National Committee for Cancer Control, Dr. Arwa Al-Azma, and the Director General of Al-Bayrouni University Hospital, Dr. Muhammad Qadri.
