Minister of Water Resources discusses with the FAO ways of supporting development projects

On May 31st, the Minister of Water Resources, Dr. Tammam Raad, met with the Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization at the United Nations (FAO), Michael Robson, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting which was held today in the Ministry’s building, the two sides discussed ways of cooperation to support development projects and issues of common interest.

Raad emphasized expanding the horizons of cooperation in the fields of rehabilitation and training, and supporting the building of human cadres and data and research centers, in parallel with the rehabilitation of the damaged infrastructure to help  the Syrian people, encourage the return of the displaced, support the stability of farmers, and maintain food security.

Raad reviewed the successful experiences of cooperation with the FAO, especially the fifth and seventh sector projects, which included the rehabilitation of irrigation systems and the restoration of thousands of hectares of agricultural land for investment.

In turn, Robson explained the high level of cooperation and coordination provided by the Ministry of Water Resources, which facilitated the implementation of many projects and encouraged the organization to continue work and put forward new horizons in projects that carry a sustainable dimension.

Robson said: “The organization is working to expand the base of cooperation with partners and donors, despite the obstacles imposed by the unilateral measures imposed on the Syrian people.”
