Syrian and Tunisian health ministers discuss cooperation on the sidelines of the 76th World Health Assembly

Health Minister Hasan Al-Ghabbash and his Tunisian counterpart Ali Al-Mrabet on Saturday held talks on the sidelines of the 76th World Health Assembly currently held in Geneva. The two sides discussed ways to consolidate health cooperation between Syria and Tunisia through exchanging experiences, technical teams’ visits and mechanisms of primary health care, and through supporting the vaccination sector and the pharmaceutical industries.

Al-Ghabbash highly appreciated Tunisia’s support for Syria including the humanitarian aid provided by the Tunisian government and people to the citizens affected by the earthquake in Syria, stressing the ministry’s keenness on boosting health cooperation with Tunisia.

It is to be noted that the World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of World Health Organization (WHO). It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the Organization, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies and review and approve the proposed program budget. The Health Assembly is held annually in Geneva, Switzerland.
