Syrian-Iraqi talks to enhance bilateral cooperation and coordination in the transport sector

Baghdad (ST): The Minister of Transport, Engineer Zuhair Khuzaym, discussed with the Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Al-Saadawi, in Baghdad today, ways of activating  cooperation and coordination relations between the two brotherly countries.

Minister Khuzaym underlined the importance of supporting every step that enhances joint Arab action and is reflected in goodness and development for the benefit of the two countries, expressing thanks and appreciation for all Iraqi humanitarian contributions and efforts in providing aid and relief work to mitigate the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria last February.

Minister Khuzaym underlined the importance of Syria’s geographical location as an international connection node, its view of the Mediterranean Sea, and its vital outlets with neighboring countries.

For his part, Minister Al-Saadawi stressed the importance of joining the efforts of the two countries and their cooperation to integrate modes of transport and invest in their geographical location, and to stimulate the movement and flow of transport between the two countries.

He affirmed the necessity of work to strengthen cooperation and coordination relations in all modes of land and rail transport, in a way that serves the two countries and brings development, benefit and goodness to them.

The meeting, which was attended by the Syrian Ambassador in Baghdad, Sattam Jadaan al-Dandah, and the administrative and technical delegation at the Ministry of Transport, touched on the importance of the development path that will be discussed and visions for benefiting from it in the international consultative meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Iraq’s neighboring countries.

Discussions also centred on ways to develop freight and transit traffic, simplify procedures and overcome all the obstacles it faces, in addition to discussing the points of developing the work of the Syrian-Iraqi Land Transport Company and discussing the issues of rail and road linkage between the two countries.
