“Syria Remains the Cradle of Arts”, an exhibition of traditional crafts at the Watan Document Foundation

Damascus (ST): A variety of handicraft products, with more than 15 artists and craftsmen of different ages, participating in the “Syria Remains the Cradle of Arts” exhibition, which is organized by the “Noon Handicrafts Group” in cooperation with the “Watan Document Foundation” opened today .

The exhibition, opened today at the Foundation’s headquarters in Damascus, and will last for two days, includes paintings, “collages”, sculptures, embroideries, dolls for children, the arts of Damask painting and copper pressing, as well as works of wooden decorations, stone mosaics, weaving and knitting arts, crochet and looms, and a group of handmade accessories.

In a statement to journalists during the opening of the exhibition, Dr. Buthaina Shaaban, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the “Watan Document Foundation,” confirmed that  Syrians excelled in reviving and developing handicrafts and putting them to use  aesthetically in various places, noting that the works presented in the exhibition indicate this creativity and the preservation of their cultural and heritage identity.

Dr. Shaaban explained that the Foundation is interested in preserving heritage, encouraging and supporting works related to it, within the framework of preserving national identity and tangible and intangible heritage.

Dr. Shaaban said: All the crafts that we are witnessing today are part of our Syrian identity, and when the Syrian identity is in the hearts, minds and hands of its citizens, there is no fear for it, and this is the secret of Syria’s survival and its continuation for tens of thousands of years.
