Palestinian and Syrian singers to perform in Toronto

Mohammed Assaf, the very first Youth Ambassador of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for the occupied Palestine, will be in Toronto to perform alive at Hershey Centre on December 21, 2013. He will be joined by Farah Youseff and Zaid Khoury.

On November 25, 2013, Assaf visited the UN headquarters in New York to participate in the Observance of the 35th International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Both UN Commissioner Filipo Grandi and Assaf stressed that Palestinian refugees are facing extreme challenges throughout the region, and that in Gaza the situation is getting worse each day. Assaf later performed Ali Keffiyeh.

On November 22, 2013, the IMPACT Magazine (University of Nottingham’s official student magazine) published an interview with Palestinian freelance journalist Yousef Al-Helou. Responding to the question, “Do you realistically expect a peace deal and/or an end to Israeli occupation in the near future?” Al-Helou replied: “No. We are totally convinced that the peace talks are a total fiasco. Twenty years of peace talks have passed, yet we are still under occupation. Israel could end the conflict tomorrow if they wanted to, but they are not interested in peace.
