Syria takes part in the Fourth Arab Competition Forum in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, (ST) – With the participation of Syria, the activities of the Fourth Arab Competition Forum kicked off yesterday in Saudi Arabia

This year’s forum focused on enhancing the efficiency of the competition authorities in developing and least developed countries, examining best practices in planning and conducting market studies.

The forum, which concludes its activities this evening, is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in partnership with the General Authority for Competition in Saudi Arabia, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Ministers and officials concerned in the competition sector from 28 Arab and international competition authorities, and a group of experts, academics and representatives of the private sector participated in the forum.

In his speech during the opening of the forum in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, yesterday, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdul Karim Al-Khulaifi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for the Competition in Saudi Arabia, stressed the importance of Arab cooperation in protecting fair competition in the region.

 According to the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”, Al-Khulaifi talked about the efforts exerted by the concerned international organizations and the invited experts who will share their rich experiences in the competition.

Syria is represented in the forum by Eng. Jalil Ibrahim, Director General of the General Authority for Competition and Monopoly Prevention at the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection.

On its first day, the activities of the forum witnessed the presentation of studies by a group of university students on mergers and acquisitions that were prepared as part of the competition challenge.

The students held open discussions with experts specialized in this competition, addressing many of the topics and exchanging ideas drawn from the experiences of the participating experts.
