TEHRAN- Syrian and Iranian officials on Saturday held talks on regional issues and reviewed ways of enhancing bilateral relations.
Prime Minister Wael Al-Halqi, who is visiting Tehran, discussed with Iran’s First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri how to bolster cooperation between the two countries and exchanged with him views on the latest developments in the region.
Al-Halqi congratulated Iran on its historic diplomatic achievement regarding its nuclear file in the recent Geneva talks.
“This historic achievement has enhanced the axis of resistance and forced great colonialist states to reconsider their stances and stop adopting the policies of dictates and threats of war against other countries,” the Premier said.
He added: “this diplomatic victory will reflect positively on resolving the crisis in Syria as all believe that the only solution to the crisis is represented in attaining a peaceful political settlement based on national dialogue and in halting all forms of financial and military support for the armed terrorist groups who are fighting in Syria to destroy the potentials of the Syrian state and people.”
Jahangiri: Iran, Syria in the same trench
For his part, Jahangiri stressed that Syria and Iran are in the same trench. “Iran’s leadership and people support and stand side by side with Syria in the confrontation of the aggression which is targeting the heart of resistance and a key country in the entire region and the world,” The Iranian official said.
A number of ranking Syrian officials including ministers of oil, foreign affairs, electricity, health and protocols are accompanying the prime minister during his visit.
