Syrian-Chinese talks on enhancing agricultural cooperation

The Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatana, discussed with the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Damascus Shi Hongwei the existing cooperation relations in the agricultural field, the exchange of agricultural products and ways to develop them.

During the meeting held today in the Ministry’s building, Qatna pointed to the possibility of benefiting from the successful Chinese experience in managing the agricultural sector, the agricultural practices of Chinese farmers, how to develop agricultural strategies and policies to increase productivity, and transfer scientific innovations and modern technologies existing in China to agriculture in Syria to develop production.

Qatana referred to the need to promote the exchange of agricultural products, and to provide the necessary facilities for that, especially with regard to the issue of shipping and reliance on air transport for fresh products that may be damaged during their transportation by sea.

Qatana noted that Syria has many agricultural products that can be exported directly to China, which are characterized with high quality, pointing at the same time to the importance of linking the exporting and importing companies in the two countries.

For his part, the Chinese ambassador affirmed that his country is working to strengthen relations with Syria in all fields, especially agricultural, as it is the basis for achieving food security for the population in light of the international challenges the world is going through.

He said that the diverse Syrian nature makes it suitable for all crops, and it is important to cooperate to develop it, pointing to the signed agreements and the need to develop and activate them and to participate in specialized exhibitions in the interest of the two countries.
