Arab Labor Conference kicks off in Cairo with Syria’s participation

On May 22nd, the activities of the 49th session of the Arab Labor Conference kicked off in Cairo, amid a wide welcome of the participation of the Syrian delegation, and for Syria’s return to play its role in the Arab League.

On the sidelines of the opening of the conference, Chairman of the General Federation of Trade Unions in Syria Jamal Al-Qadri, was elected as head of the trade unions’ team at the conference.

The participating delegations welcomed the Syrian delegation’ participating in the conference after the return of Syria to play its role in the Arab League.

The conference is sponsored by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

 Minister of Manpower in Egypt Hassan Mohamed Shehata,  who represented President El-sisi at the event, affirmed that “things have returned to normal with the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League.”

The Iraqi Minister of Labor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Labor Organization, Ahmad al-Asadi, affirmed that “Syria has never been absent from the joint Arab action, and it was and will remain in the heart and conscience of every Arab citizen who believes in the issues, principles and ideals of his nation.”

In turn, Director General of the Arab Labor Organization, Fayez Ali Al-Mutairi, pointed out that Syria’s return to participate in the work of the Arab League will give a strong impetus to joint Arab action.

For his part, the head of the Mauritanian conference, Muhammad Abdullah al-Salem Ahmadwa, said: “Syria is the beating heart of Arabism and the artery of joint Arab action, and with its return the pulse will return to this work.”

 Syria is participating in the conference with a delegation led by Al-Qadri, and it comprises a number of members of the executive bureaue of the Federation of Trade Union and Vocational Unions. The Acting Chargé d’Affairs at the Syrian Embassy in Cairo Basil Scotty and a delegation from the Permanent Syrian mission in Egypt also took part in the event.

The 49th session of the Arab Labor Conference will discuss technical and vocational education and training policies in the light of digital transformation, and the future of social security in the Arab region.

The conference will also discuss the report of the Director-General submitted to the conference, in which the main topic will be “social dialogue between the challenges of the present and future prospects.
