Al-Mikdad receives credentials of Adam Abdel Mawla as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Syria

On May 22nd, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad, received the credentials of Adam Abdel Mawla as the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria.

During their meeting, the two sides discussed cooperation between the Syrian government and various United Nations organizations and offices operating in Syria, and the importance of upgrading this cooperation to meet the existing humanitarian challenges, in a way that contributes to supporting humanitarian work and alleviating the suffering of Syrian citizens.

Minister Al-Mikdad stressed the importance of meeting the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people due to the terrorist war, the unilateral coercive economic measures illegally imposed by the United States of America and the West, and the earthquake disaster.

Al-Mikdad stressed the need to focus on implementing early recovery projects and supporting the energy sector to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure, enhance services and support reconstruction.

Al-Mikdad stressed the need to stop politicizing the humanitarian issue by some Western countries through the United Nations to achieve their political agendas, and to work in accordance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, which stipulate respect for the sovereignty and independence of states and non-interference in their internal affairs.

In turn, Abdul Mawla indicated that the scale of the humanitarian challenges is great, and that the role of the United Nations in Syria will focus on helping the Syrian people to rise again, accelerating the recovery process in various sectors that affect the various aspects of the daily lives of Syrian citizens, and delivering humanitarian aid to the neediest groups.
