Jordan condemns Israeli violations against al-Aqsa Mosque

Jordan on Tuesday slammed ultra orthodox Israeli settlers’ continued violations in the al-Aqsa Mosque/ al-Haram al-Sharif and breaches on the holy compound under Israeli police protection.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sinan Majali condemned the storming of the minister in the occupation government Itamar Ben-Gvir at the head of a group of settlers into Al Aqsa. He said the Israeli actions and escalations against the mosque and other provocative practices in the compound as well as the restrictions placed on worshippers are “rejected and condemned, and represent a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo and international law”.

Majali indicated that the continuous violations and attacks on holy sites and the Israeli raids into the occupied Palestinian territories may lead to further escalations.

He stressed that the holy compound, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship purely for Muslims, and that  Al Quds and al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the body that has the exclusive jurisdiction to manage all the affairs of the compound and organize entry to it.

He also called on Israel, as the occupying power, to immediately halt all actions that aim to change the legal and historical status quo and impose spatial or temporal divisions.
