Biden unveils new $375 million U.S. military aid package for Ukraine

US President Joe Biden announced a new package of military aid of up to $375 million to Ukraine on Sunday.

Reuters quoted Biden as saying during his meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the G-7 summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima that the United States was doing all it could to strengthen Ukraine’s defense for the war with Russia. He noted that the new aid will include ammunition, artillery and armored vehicles.

After announcing this, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced that Canada would continue to support Kiev no matter what it takes. Trudeau indicated that his country will continue to train the Ukrainian army, as it has done since 2015.

In turn, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that his country will start training Ukrainian pilots this summer to support Kiev in the face of Russia.

Over the course of the three days of the summit, the G7 countries sent signals that they were ready to support Ukraine in the long term.
