Head of Syrian Arab Karate Federation Jihad Maya won membership of the Mediterranean Karate Federation’s Union (MKFU) in the elections held during a meeting on the sidelines of the 29th edition of the Mediterranean Karate Championships which kicked off on May 19 and will last until May 22.
In a statement to SANA, Maya said that winning membership of the MKFU is important as the federation comprises all counties of the Mediterranean basin and Syria’s presence in this federation helps develop this game from the technical, organizational and administrative aspects.
He added that the Syrian Karate Federation agreed with its counterparts in Cyprus, Egypt and Tunisia on holding joint camps that will benefit the Syrian players in terms of enhancing their skills and preparing them for coming competitions.
The Syrian Karate team is currently taking part in the Mediterranean Karate Championships in Tunis.
Maya said that the Syrian team will face strong competitions with teams for the Arab world, Africa and Europe.
He added that the event is an opportunity for the Syrian team to be in touch with different karate schools, particularly as the team is preparing for participation in the Arab Karate Championships in the Algerian city of Oran next July.
The mission of the Syrian team participating in the currently held Mediterranean Karate Championships in Tunisia includes Head of the game’s federation Jihad Maya, coach Suheil Salman and the athletes Khuloud Ali, Wisam Abu Mahmoud, Samir Qabbani, Khaled Darweesh, Rayan Naser, Kheder Jamil Yousef.
