AL Secretary General: The Arab summit achieved its desired goal

At the end of the 32nd Arab Summit, the Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Secretary General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit held a press conference.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan welcomed the messages of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping to the Arab summit in Jeddah.

He affirmed that the stance of Saudi Arabia and the Arab League states is that “there is no way for solving the crisis in Syria except through dialogue, partnership and cooperation with the Syrian government.

Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that the Arab summit achieved its desired goal and was characterized by consensus during its preparation, during its meetings and in its results.

He added that the decision regarding the return of Syria to the League has very clear symbolism, and there is a desire and firm determination for greater Arab involvement in resolving the crisis, restoring Syria to its natural role in the Arab region, and overcoming the difficult circumstances it went through.

He went on to say that the Arab crises occupied an important place on the agenda of the summit, and the Arabs want to have the forefront of dealing with Arab problems away from any foreign interference.

Aboul Gheit affirmed that the Palestinian issue was at the forefront of the discussions, and this was evident through the decisions in support of the Palestinian people that were issued in the Jeddah Declaration.

AL Secretary General concluded his speech by affirming that there is a new dynamism in the Arab world, and we look forward to this summit being the beginning for the Arabs to take matters into their own hands and move with a collective will to settle the crises of the Arab region.
