People’s Assembly participates in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Sustainable Development in Bahrain

Upon the invitation of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, a delegation from the Syrian People’s Assembly participated in the meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development held in the Bahraini capital, Manama.

Eight draft resolutions were discussed during the meeting, which was held over the past two days with the participation of 23 Asian parliaments of Member States.

The resolutions included the establishment of an Asian energy market, guaranteeing efforts for growth, a draft resolution on environmental issues and another on poverty eradication, in addition to the role of Asian parliaments in implementing the objectives of Sustainable development, adopting a roadmap to stimulate green finance and the Asian Climate Finance Initiative, and providing water and sanitation for all in Asia.

The delegation of the People’s Assembly affirmed in its interventions that Syria is heading steadily towards achieving the goals of sustainable development, including eradicating poverty while preserving the environment, stressing that the PA seeks to issue many laws related to this matter.

The delegation reviewed the terrorist war on Syria which resulted in the destruction of the vital infrastructure by the terrorist groups, the looting of national wealth, and the subsequent economic blockade and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people by the United States of America and Western countries.

The delegation pointed to the repercussions of the devastating earthquake that struck a number of Syrian governorates recently, appreciating highly the urgent humanitarian aid provided by a number of friendly countries to the Syrian people.
