Zaki affirms Arab understanding on a number of issues during Jeddah meetings

On May 17th, Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League confirmed that consensus during the preparatory ministerial meeting was the most prominent feature on all decisions that were submitted to the Jeddah summit scheduled to be held on Friday.

He pointed to the existence of Arab understanding on a number of important issues.

He indicated in a press statement that the meeting tackled various issues, most of them were political, related to the Palestinian cause and various developments in crisis and foreign interference in the affairs of Arab countries, in addition to adopting a package of decisions submitted by the Economic and Social Council.

He stressed that Syria’s return to the meetings of the Arab League paved the way to a new phase of dealing with the situation in Syria, calling for a tangible Arab contribution to restore security and stability in this Arab country, and to help it deal with all the problems it faces as a result of the previous stage.

With regard to the situation in Sudan, he pointed out that there is a draft resolution submitted to the Arab summit that takes into account all the developments taking place there, in addition to the Jeddah Humanitarian Declaration that was issued several days ago.

He said that the Palestinian issue, as usual, is a main axis of the entire Arab situation, and we are all following the situation in Palestine and the illegal measures and policies taken by the Israeli occupation.

Zaki concluded by saying: “We hope that the decisions of the Arab Summit will constitute an impetus for joint Arab action and an attempt to contribute to ending existing conflicts and mitigating their impacts.”
