Arab politicians: All eyes are on Syria at the Jeddah summit and on its active role in promoting joint Arab action

Since the decision to resume Syria’s participation in the meetings of the Arab League, attention has been directed to Syria’s presence in the 32nd Arab Summit, which will be held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on May 19, and to the positive impacts that this has on joint Arab action, especially since Syria has an active and influential role in supporting various Arab causes.

Arab observers and politicians continued to emphasize this content and the importance of Syria’s participation.

Saudi academic and political analyst Dr. Khaled Batarfi affirmed that the Arabs are looking forward to Syria’s presence at the Arab Summit this year, which will contribute to the cohesion of the Arab ranks and to the ability to facing all the conspiracies, attacks, interferences and attempts to dominate and influence the Arab nation’s issues and internal affairs.

Batarfi considered that Syria today is in its natural place within the Arab ranks shoulder to shoulder with the Arab countries that face multiple crises and chronic issues, the most prominent of which is the Palestinian issue. The Saudi analyst stressed that “confronting these crises requires a strong unified Arab position.”

The media advisor and writer for the Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh, Dr. Khaled Al-Khudari, said: Syria has its weight and geopolitical importance, as it is a country that has had active presence in Arab summits and therefore. Syria’s participation in the upcoming Jeddah summit has a special importance as its participation will represent a new movement in the region for work to unify Arab ranks and  boost cooperation in order to overcome past crises.

For his part, the Iraqi writer and academic Dr. Ahmed al-Jubouri stated that the Arab region is currently witnessing many security, economic and political challenges that require concerted efforts and cooperation among all its countries. He said: “Syria is one of the main and influential Arab countries in the region, and therefore its absence from the League of Arab States and the Arab summits affects the achievement of the goals and tasks of the League.”

On the economic side, Al-Jubouri pointed out that many Arab countries depend heavily on the Syrian economy, and therefore the presence of Syria in the Arab world will contribute to strengthening economic cooperation between Arab countries and opening new horizons for trade and investment, which will enhance economic stability in the region, boost security cooperation between Arab countries and achieve stability in these countries.

For his part, the Emirati writer Ahmed Ibrahim said: “Syria, which has just emerged from the catastrophe of the earthquake and withstood the terrorist war, is returning to its natural position and to resuming its participation in the meetings of the Arab League.

Tunisian researchman Saleh Badrouchi believes that Syria has become the focus of attention of those interested in Arab and regional political affairs. He also believes that the resumption of the participation of Syria in the meetings of the Arab League brings many positive changes in the economic and political fields.

Badrouchi said: “Syria has gained experience through its steadfastness in the face of a global war and through the international and regional alliances it achieved, as well as through the diplomatic, military and security achievements, which all enable Syria to play an important role in helping the official Arab leaders to follow a new approach in inter-Arab relations and focus collectively on Arab interests in concluding international alliances.

Badrouchi added, “We, as politicians and Arab nationalists, are eagerly awaiting Syria’s recovery, so that it can play a leading role in the Arab arena to push the Arab national project.

Badrouchi concluded by saying that Syria has remained in the heart and conscience of the Arab peoples who are always calling for its return. “We, as Arab citizens, are proud of Syria, whose steadfastness was the only point of light in the atmosphere of darkness brought by the “Spring of Destruction.”
