The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) in cooperation with the Syrian Arab-Australian Association and the branch of the Syrian Student Union in Australia organized a solidarity meeting in Melbourne to commemorate the Palestinian Nakba. The event was held in the presence of a number of Australian MPs, citizens and members of the Arab communities.
During the event Michalis Michael from the AMWU delivered a speech in which he affirmed commitment to the international initiative of solidarity with the Palestinian people in their confrontation of the repressive and brutal policies of the Israeli occupation.
Other speakers during the meeting stressed the importance of supporting the Palestinian people and standing by them until they achieve their goals and restore their usurped rights.
Meanwhile, a short film on the Nakba and the Israeli violations against the Palestinian people was presented.
In an interview with SANA correspondent in Melbourne, the Palestinian ambassador Ezzat Abdel-Hadi affirmed that this meeting expresses the position of a segment of Australian citizens who reject the practices of the occupation and support the rights of the Palestinian people.
At the end of the meeting, the ambassador called on the Palestinian and Arab communities to unify efforts in order to deliver the voice of our Palestinian people and their agony to be heard, and to present it to the public opinion in Australia and the world in order to reach an international public opinion that supports the Palestinian cause.
