Jeddah, (ST) – Syrian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil has called on the Arab countries to carry out investments in Syria in the light of the existence of promising opportunities and new laws that attract investors.
He made the remarks in a speech during the meeting of the Arab League Economic and Social Council held at the ministers’ level in Jeddah in preparation for the upcoming Arab Summit.
Al-Khalil stressed that Syria is ready to discuss ways for achieving development in bilateral and multilateral relations in a way that benefits the Arab peoples.
Al-Khalil underlined that in the light of the exceptional circumstances resulting from the international changes that the world is going through, the issue of achieving food security has become a basic and urgent need, which requires strengthening joint Arab action in this field.
He thanked all the Arab countries which supported Syria during the earthquake crisis, stressing that their humanitarian assistance has contributed to recovery from the physical and psychological damage that affected thousands of Syrian citizens.
Al-Khalil went on to say that before the war and sanctions, Syria was among the countries that witnessed notable real economic development, but the destruction caused to the country’s production and service infrastructure as well as the continuous acts of looting Syria’s crops and oil have greatly contributed to the deterioration in the level of its food and energy security.
“Therefore, the efforts of the Syrian state focused on strengthening the production and development process, thus contributing to limiting the impact of this decline on the standard of living of citizens, and accelerating the return of the displaced Syrians by creating a suitable environment for them at the economic and social levels, and enabling them to participate in the process of rebuilding their country”, he clarified.
Al-Khalil thanked Algeria for its efforts during its previous presidency of the Arab summit and congratulated Saudi Arabia for hosting the current session of the summit, wishing it all success.
