The Syrian Geological Museum inaugurated

Damascus (ST): The Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources, Dr. Firas Kaddour, inaugurated the Syrian Geological Museum in the building of the General Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources. It includes a selection of minerals, rocks, fossils, and mineral ores.

The museum also includes machines showing the mechanism of work of the phosphate plant from its extraction from the quarry, through washing, drying and transport units to export through the port, and machines for a map of Syria showing the locations of mineral resources, in addition to a group of old equipment from field laboratories and geophysical and topographic devices that show how geological work developed from primitive devices to the present stage.

The museum includes a section showing the products of the General Foundation for Geology of all materials (salt, marble, oil shale, sand), in addition to highlighting geological phenomena that include the embodiment of types of faults, folds and volcanoes, as well as paintings showing the development of tectonic plates, geological and environmental maps, in addition to fossils.

The Minister of Oil drew attention to the great efforts made by the institution’s employees and stressed that the museum supports scientific research, and constitutes a scientific and historical document for all those interested in the field of earth sciences, whether students, investors or the public, in a way that achieves the scientific reference for the geological history of Syria, and a platform for displaying all sources of mineral wealth available, and how to invest them, referring to the modern scientific way to display holdings.
