A delegation from the People’s Assembly participates in the International Conference on the Constitution of Pakistan

Islamabad (ST): A delegation from the People’s Assembly participated in the activities of the International Conference on the Constitution of Pakistan in the capital, Islamabad, which was held by the Pakistani National Assembly on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of its country’s constitution in 1973.

The delegation included the Secretary of the People’s Assembly, Salloum Salloum, the head of the Syrian-Pakistani Parliamentary Friendship Committee, Munzer Ibrahim, the rapporteur of the Friendship Committee, Farouk Al-Hammadi, and a member of the committee, Ali Haj Khalifa, in the presence of the Syrian ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ramez Al-Rai.

During the speeches of the two-day conference, the Syrian delegation emphasized the importance of the constitution that is in line with the needs and requirements of the people and its role in strengthening national unity and bringing together all people from different classes and ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds under the roof of the state that upholds the law, and by devoting the concept of respecting the rights and duties of all citizens equally and justly.

The delegation’s speech pointed to the necessity of adhering to the constitution as a general responsibility imposed on all segments of society, since the document of the constitution not only guarantees internal political stability but is also capable of guaranteeing the basic rights of citizens.

The delegation also spoke about the experience of the development of the constitution in the Syrian Arab Republic, starting from the first constitution in 1920, and about its repeated modernization and development in order to keep pace with developments in life and the needs of citizens.

On the sidelines of the conference activities, the Syrian parliamentary delegation met with the Speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly, Raja Pervez Ashraf.

During the meeting, Ashraf affirmed that Pakistan enjoys very good relations with Syria, expressing his appreciation to the Syrian delegation that accepted the invitation to participate in this important event for Pakistan.
