DAMASCUS, (ST) – Mohammad Seifo, the Resident Representative of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) in Syria, asserted that AKDN discusses the possibility of its participation in the re-building projects in Syria.
Seifo, who urged all Syrian engineers to participate in the Aga Khan Architecture World Award, told SANA correspondent on Monday: “We seriously discuss our participation in projects to re-build infrastructure in Syria.”
He also underscored that the AKDN has already renovated the citadels of Aleppo, Saladin and Masiaf in Syria, noting that Syria is a fertile place for Islamic Architecture.
“We hope that the network will play a key role in restoring archeological buildings and monuments damaged by the armed terrorists groups,” Seifo said.
He called on all Syrian engineers, who are working in construction to participate in the Aga Khan Architecture Award, encouraging them to develop their skills.
Participants in the symposium discussed the winner projects in terms of implementation, idea and importance of their connection to the local society. They also discussed the conditions requested for the nomination to the architectural award.
AKDN Executive Director for Cultural Servicers Ali Ismael said that the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, which was launched in 1977, is granted once every three years, aiming to encourage participants’ creativity. He pointed out that over 110 projects in several countries had won the prize.
