Emirati Newspaper Al-Khaleej: Syria’s return to the Arab League an important step to strengthen Arab action

Abu Dhabi, (ST) –  The Emirati “Al-Khaleej” Newspaper affirmed that the return of Syria to its normal position in the League of Arab States is an important step to achieve Arab recovery, given Syria’s main role in strengthening joint Arab action in the face of the existing challenges.

In its editorial on Monday, the newspaper said that the plot that was hatched against Syria and the fierce international war that have targeted it for nearly 12 years aimed at destroying this country, fragmenting its national and territorial unity, and removing it from the equation of conflict with the enemies of the nation, given the fact the Syria is one of the basic pillars of Arab national security. This caused an imbalance in the Arab system, which suffered from weakness without Syria, and it greatly harmed joint Arab action, the newspaper pointed out.

The newspaper stressed the need for Syria to restore its sovereignty over all of its territory through the withdrawal of all foreign forces, the elimination of terrorist organizations from the areas they control, the advancement of a political settlement, and the achievement of a comprehensive solution to the crisis.

The newspaper stressed that the mission of the Arab countries now must be to start  working to confront the so-called American “Caesar Act” as well as the harsh illegal sanctions that constitute an open economic war against the Syrian people, who have been suffering since 2020 from the outcomes of this Act at various levels including their  living, social life and and health.

The newspaper continued: The occupation of the Syrian lands by the American and Turkish forces in the northwest and east of the country, establishing military bases on Syrian lands, the US and Turkish support for armed groups, and their control of Syrian oil resources pose a challenge to restoring Syria’s sovereignty, and impede any effort for political solution. “ Joint Arab action is necessary to face these challenges by applying actual pressure on the concerned authorities, and to get out of the state of dependence and fear”, the newspaper concluded.
