Lavrov, Safadi discuss Middle East issues and the results of Amman meeting

Moscow-(ST) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday discussed during a phone convesration with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al-Safadi pressing issues in the Middle East.

The two sides stressed the common interest in continuing to coordinate positions with regard to settling crises that have a negative impact on regional and international stability and security.

Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Al-Safadi briefed Lavrov on the results of the Amman meeting of the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Syria, which was held on the first of May.

Lavrov welcomed the readiness expressed by the participants in the meeting to take a leading role in helping resolve the crisis in Syria, including resolving humanitarian issues, rebuilding infrastructure, returning refugees, combating terrorism and drug trafficking and continuing the political process.

The two sides stressed that it is very important to stress the necessity of fully restoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, and they also discussed ways to further strengthen the Russian-Jordanian bilateral cooperation.
