Abdul Latif discusses with Patricio Brickle mechanisms for providing logistic support to help Syria face the repercussions of the earthquake
Damascus (ST): The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Eng. Suhail Abdul Latif, discussed with the Chargé d’Affairs of the Chilean Embassy in Damascus, Jose Patricio Brickle means of exchanging experiences between the two sides, and providing logistical support to Syria in facing the repercussions of the earthquake that struck a number of governorates last February.
The meeting, which was held at the Ministry’s building in Damascus, focused on the working mechanism of the Chilean academic scientific team, which is expected to visit Syria at the end of May.
The Minister of Public Works and Housing expressed the Ministry’s readiness to provide all facilities for the work of the specialized team, referring to the need for the work to be centralized from the Ministry within a unified program, with the aim of achieving the required benefit and shortening time and effort.
Abdul Latif pointed out that the years of the terrorist war on Syria and the unjust Western blockade imposed on it have caused the ministry to lose a lot of engineering equipment and machinery, and prevented its ability to acquire modern machinery and equipment.
For his part, Patricio Briquell explained that the Chilean academic scientific team specializes in the subject of seismic studies, and will work to provide expertise, visit the affected governorates, and transfer the Chilean experience to help the Syrians in facing the repercussions of the earthquake, especially since the country of Chile is considered one of the countries most exposed to earthquakes.
