Tunisian Foreign Minister: The return of diplomatic relations with Syria is in the interest of both countries

On May 1st, the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar said the return of diplomatic relations between Syria and Tunisia means the return to a normal situation, stressing that this is in the interest of the two brotherly countries.

Ammar pointed out in an interview with the Tunisian News Agency “WAT” that among the first instructions he received from Tunisian President Kais Saied when he was appointed to his post was to restore diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Syria to their normal level.

He stressed that “Syria is a brotherly country with which we have strong relations”.

He pointed out that his country’s new ambassador to Syria had received his credentials, and for its part, Syria would soon appoint a new ambassador to Tunisia.

He described the recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad to Tunisia as a historic visit.

He added that his country “does not interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and the future of the Syrians is a purely Syrian matter.”

A few days ago, the Tunisian president appointed Muhammad al-Mahdhabi as ambassador to Tunisia in Syria.
