The General Confederation of Trade Unions: We will remain the true voice defending workers’ rights and gains

Damascus (ST): The General Confederation of Trade Unions affirmed that the celebration of International May Day this year coincides with the continuation of the official and popular efforts to overcome the repercussions of the earthquake disaster, through which the Syrian people presented the best forms of solidarity and national cohesion, in which the workers were distinguished by their effectiveness, dynamism and patriotism, traits that they are accustomed .Their response rapid and urgent  to the repercussions of the disaster, mirroring their response during the terrorist war, defending the nation’s dignity, independence and unity.

The Federation said in a statement: The anniversary of May 1st comes in light of difficult economic conditions that the world is going through in all its parts, as the forces of evil and aggression continue to practice their aggressive policies to destabilize global stability, destroy homelands, and terrorize their people by imposing siege policies and unfair sanctions. They have great repercussions that threaten the lives of millions of people in their livelihood and the future of their children.

The Federation stated that International Labor Day has become a symbol of the unity and solidarity of workers and their common struggle against various forms of exploitation and capitalist domination and a station in which their eternal message of work and giving is renewed to preserve their trade union rights and freedoms.

The Federation indicated that it will remain the true voice of workers, defending their rights and gains, and striving relentlessly to achieve everything that can be achieved in their interest by constantly demanding an increase in salaries and wages and all related compensation, in conjunction with working to update the laws governing labor and social and trade union protection to ensure workers a safe and sound work environment.
