Vershinin: Next meeting on Syria in Astana Format will be held in the next half of this year

Moscow – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin has announced that the next meeting on Syria in Astana Format will be held in the second half of this year.
In a statement on Saturday, Vershinin said “the high ranking meetings in Astana Format are held regularly and the next meeting is scheduled to be held in the second half of this year, but the exact time for this has not been specified yet”.
He pointed out that “Astana Format is of great effectiveness as meetings at the level of ministers and special representatives of the participating countries were held within its framework”.
“We believe that this format constitutes an important factor for stability and for solving the crisis in Syria and for reaching settlement in the entire region,” Vershinin added, noting the positive developments regarding Syria, particularly in terms of Syria’s relations with other countries in the region, which is a greatly welcomed development.
It is to be noted that the 19th Meeting on Syria in Astana Format was held in the Kazakh Capital Astana last November.
