Syrian-Iranian relations are deep and strategic: Abdollahian

Beirut – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has described the Syrian-Iranian relations as “excellent, deep and strategic.”

During a press conference he held in Beirut at the end of his visit to Lebanon, Abdollahian welcomed the strengthening of relations between Syria and the Arab world, explaining that the Saudi-Iranian dialogue conincided with the start of a dialogue between Damascus and Riyadh that resulted in an important agreement between the two sides on restoring relations.

“The bet on the collapse of the Syrian government failed thanks to the Syrian people and army’s rallying around their leadership in the face of the terrorist war,” Abdollahian said, reiterating his country’s rejection of the illegal presence of foreign forces in the region.

He added that a program was drawn up for the visit of President Ebrahim Raisi to Syria in the coming period.

Regarding the situation in Lebanon, Abdollahian said “we believe that the influential Lebanese political forces have the necessary ability and competence to complete the political process and choose a president for the republic. We support consensus and agreement among the Lebanese and encourage the completion of the political process, and we will welcome any Lebanese personality who is elected president”.

He referred to the common and convergent political positions between Iran and Lebanon regarding many political issues.
