Syria, Iran to enhance cooperation in the field of transport

Damascus, (ST)- Minister of Transport, Eng. Zuhair Khuzaym discussed with the Iranian Minister of Roads and Cities Building, Mehrdad Bazarbash prospects for bilateral cooperation between Syria and Iran in the fields of land, sea, air and railway transport.

During a meeting held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Transport in Damascus, the two sides discussed the mechanism for framing agreements and memorandums of understanding.

The two sides look forward to developing the cooperation agreed upon within the work of the joint Syrian-Iranian committee including the tripartite rail link for transporting passengers and goods between Syria, Iraq and Iran. They also discussed the proposal to establish joint transport companies and activate the maritime transport lines between the ports of the two countries.

The two sides noted the importance of increasing flights and the facilities provided to visitors, stressing the need to activate the transit and freight line as a vital economic artery for the exchange of goods.

The Syrian and Iranian sides stressed the importance of permanent coordination to confront the challenges and unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the two countries.
