Kanaani: Iranian military program has a defensive and deterrent nature only

Tehran (ST): Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani affirmed that the Iranian military program has a defensive and deterrent nature only, and it does not target any country that does not think of attacking Iran.

The official IRNA news agency quoted Kanaani as saying in response to statements by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken about Iran: The provocative statements of the US Secretary of State regarding the Iranian military program aim only to continue marketing US weapons, by fueling the failed scheme of intimidation against Iran and provoking discord among the countries of the region.

Kanaani added: Contrary to the ill-conceived statements of the US Secretary, Iran has always emphasized that regional dialogue and cooperation are necessary to ensure the security and common interests of the countries of the region away from the foreign interference and within the framework of the policy of good neighborhood.

Kanaani explained that the ill-considered and wrong actions committed by the US administrations over decades are a source of insecurity and stability in the region, stressing that the process of promoting stability and peace continues on its way with the cooperation and participation of the countries of the region.
