Many countries begin evacuating their nationals and diplomats from Sudan

Today, France began the rapid evacuation of its citizens and diplomatic staff from Sudan.

“The operation will also include European citizens and others from allied countries,” the French Foreign Ministry was quoted by AgenceFrance-Presse as saying today in a statement.

US President Joe Biden also announced that US forces carried out a mission to evacuate US embassy employees and their families from Khartoum.

Biden said in a statement last night: “On my orders, the American forces carried out an operation to evacuate government employees from Khartoum.”

German magazine Der Spiegel also reported that the German foreign and defense ministers held an emergency meeting yesterday to discuss the possibility of carrying out an evacuation operation, after three military planes were forced to return and not complete their mission last Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia also announced the evacuation of dozens of Saudis and citizens of other countries by sea to the city of Jeddah, the first announced evacuation from Sudan since the outbreak of clashes.

In addition, the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement today that it is following up the situation of the Lebanese in Sudan and continuing its diplomatic contacts, with the aim of arranging the evacuation of its nationals.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on all Egyptian citizens outside the city of Khartoum to go to their nearest point in preparation for their evacuation from Sudan.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced the evacuation of its diplomatic staff from the Iraqi embassy building in the Sudanese capital.
