Scientists from Syria and Russia create new materials to detect explosives

Moscow (ST): The Russian Ministry of Education and Science announced that scientists from the Ural Federal University and the University of Aleppo have created new fluorescent materials that can be used as highly sensitive sensors for typical nitrogen-containing toxic explosives in solutions and gases.

Sputnik quoted the ministry as saying: “Developing new sensor compositions and materials that can be relied upon to detect traces of explosives and their components is one of the necessary technical tasks to ensure safety.

According to the ministry, “The new method, called the “fluorescent method,” can be used, which is characterized by its simplicity in technical implementation, low cost, and high sensitivity of the materials being identified, which can be detected remotely by particles that evaporate from their surface.”
