President al-Assad performs Eid al-Fitr prayer in the Hafez al-Assad mosque in Damascus

Damascus (ST): President Bashar al-Assad performed this morning the Eid al-Fitr prayer in the Hafez al-Assad’s mosque in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus.

The Minister of Awqaf, a number of officials in the state and the party, a number of members of the People’s Assembly, a group of Islamic religious scholars, and an audience of citizens performed the prayer with President al-Assad  entrusted with His Eminence Sheikh Dr. Khader Shahrour, Director of the Awqaf in Damascus Countryside.

In the Eid sermon, Sheikh Shahrour highlighted the great meanings of  Eid al-Fitr which encompass  solidarity, compassion, cohesion and tolerance, pointing out that these sublime meanings were manifested in our beloved country, Syria, despite the brutal siege, where the Syrians, Muslims and Christians, raced to help their brothers affected by the earthquake as a unique example of peaceful coexistence and national cohesion.

The Eid preacher said: We saw children who took out what they were collecting for the Eid for their needs and sent it to their brothers. We also saw a widow taking about what she had prepared for her orphaned children and instead sending it to those affected by the earthquake, stressing that this is the philosophy of joy in Islam, and therefore the Syrians won their battle against terrorism.

Sheikh Shahrour indicated that the patience shown by the Syrian people in the harsh conditions and their rally around their valiant army which had sacrificed so much , made the world return to Syria believing in its civilized message, recognizing the clarity of its vision, and the wisdom of its leader, Mr. President Bashar al-Assad.

Addressing the President, he said, “Here, our Arab brothers are returning to the beating heart of Arabism, Damascus, with love and longing. The Syrian people welcome them, so that the Arab nation will return to its unity and splendor, God willing.”

The Eid preacher concluded by praying to God Almighty to preserve Syria, its people, its leader and its valiant army, have mercy on its martyrs and heal its wounded, and grant success to President al-Assad and guide his steps for the good and interest of the country.
