Joint Syrian-Tunisian statement asserts the need for enhancing bilateral cooperation

TUNIS Apr.18, (ST)- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Miqdad held on Tuesday talks with Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs Immigration Nabil Ammar in Tunis.

The talks were followed by a joint statement affirming the necessity of preserving Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and stability, and pushing regional and international efforts to accelerate the track of reaching a political solution to the crisis in addition to Syria’s restoration to its sovereignty on all its territory.

“ With the aim of consolidating the long-standing brotherly and historical ties between Tunisia and Syria, and what the common interest requires in terms of solidarity in the face of growing regional and international challenges, and in response to the invitation of Nabil Ammar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, Faisal Al-Miqdad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, paid a working visit to Tunisia from the 17th to the 19th of this month,” the statement said.

It referred to the meetings and talks that Al-Miqdad had held with Tunisian officials, welcoming the restoration of Syrian-Tunisian normal relations, and the appointment of a Tunisian ambassador to Syria and reopening the Syrian Embassy in Tunis and appointing an ambassador there.

The two sides agreed upon the following points:

Intensifying contacts between the two countries in the upcoming stage.
Working on resuming the economic cooperation between the two states.
Boosting cooperation in the consular and humanitarian field.

Enhancing cooperation in the security domain, particularly in combating terrorism and the organized crime.

Affirming Tunisian stance that supports Syria’s returning to its Arab surrounding and restoring its role in the Arab League.

Expressing Tunisia’s full solidarity with Syria in the face of Israeli occupation’s repeated attacks on its territory and supporting its legitimate right in restoring the occupied Syrian Golan.

The joint statement in addition condemned the Israeli entity’s systematized attacks on the Palestinian people, stressing support for the Palestinian people to restore their legitimate inalienable rights and establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

It underscoredd the need for unifying the Arab efforts to confront the common challenges facing the region in the light of the current regional and international shifts.
