Al-Mikdad and his Algerian counterpart diacuss strengthening bilateral cooperation

On April 17th, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal Al-Mikdad, met with the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community abroad Ahmed Ataf.

The two sides discussed ways to activate and enhance bilateral cooperation.

They also discussed the work of the joint higher committee and focused on strengthening relations and coordination on various Arab and international issues of common interest.

Al-Mikdad gave an overview of the latest developments in the Syrian arena in the light of his recent consultations with officials of a number of capitals of Arab and friendly countries.

Al-Mikdad, also talked about the achievements made by the Syrian people in their war against terrorism, and the difficulties they have been facing as a result of the unilateral coercive sanctions imposed on them by the United States of America and Western countries.

Al-Mikdad praised the efforts and humanitarian aid provided by Algeria to Syria after the catastrophe of the earthquake that struck several Syrian governorates.

For his part, Minister Ataf congratulated the Syrian leadership, people and government on the occasion of Evacuation Day (Independence Day), and expressed the Algerian government’s readiness to activate mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between the two brotherly countries in all fields.

He said that his country was keen during the past years to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability and to support the country in confronting the various increasing challenges, especially after the difficult conditions it went through after the earthquake.

He expressed Algeria’s hope that Syria will emerge victorious from this crisis and return to exercising its important role on the Arab and international arenas.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in the Arab, regional and international arena.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides affirmed the continuation of coordination and dialogue between the two countries at various levels, in a way that serves various Arab issues, foremost of which is the basic Arab cause, which is the Palestinian cause.
