MOSCOW, (ST) –” the talks held by the Syrian delegation ,currently visiting Moscow, with Russian officials focused on combating terrorism and halting violence,”said Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Dr. Fayssal Mikdad.
In a statement to Russia Today TV channel on Tuesday following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Mikdad said that before holding talks in Geneva, Syrians must agree that terrorism is out of discussion and that it must cease immediately, stressing that stopping terrorism is the mission of all patriotic Syrians.
“the Syrian government welcomes the establishing of a Syrian national coalition against terrorism and foreign interference. The government will not hold talks with terrorists nor meet with them, “underscored Mikdad.
“actually ,it won’t be difficult for the Syrians to agree upon ending violence and stopping the bloodshed which is supported by certain sides and countries including Saudi Arabia, France, Britain, the US and their pawns inside Syria, “affirmed Mikdad.
Mikdad added that talks with Russian officials also tackled other issues such as : preparations for holding the Geneva 2 conference, its composition and the criteria for participating in it and the developing Syrian-Russian relations.
” the future of these relations is very promising, particularly if the Syrians manage to find a final solution and put an end to the destructive war, “stressed Mikdad.
Mikdad made it clear that Russia’s stance towards Syria hasn’t changed, voicing Syria’s readiness to support Lavrov’s call for moderate forces in Syria to unite to combat terrorism, affirming readiness to implement this directive if the other forces are Syrian, nationalist, who support independent national decisions, and are not subservient to Saudi Arabia, Britain, the US or Israel.
“dialogue must be among Syrians without preconditions, and that countries must stop funding, arming and supporting terrorism, otherwise they will be punished as per international law and Security Council resolutions, “said Mikdad.
