Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates: Stances of the European Union expose its flagrant double standards
Damascus, (ST) – Syria affirmed that the agreement of the European Council and the European Parliament to adopt the so-called “anti-coercion instrument” in the field of trade, once again highlights the flagrant double standards adopted by the European Union.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Wednesday that the Syrian Arab Republic expresses its astonishment at the agreement of the European Council and the European Parliament to adopt the so-called “anti-coercion instrument” in the field of trade. “The European Union punishes countries it claims that they impose coercive measures on other countries, while the EU itself imposes illegal coercive measures on a number of developing countries, including Syria, which has worsened the suffering of millions of civilians, and impeded the efforts of the targeted countries to meet the needs of their people and achieve the goals of sustainable development, well-being and prosperity”, the statement added.
The ministry said that this position unequivocally proves the flagrant double standards adopted by the European Union.
The Ministry concluded its statement by saying: The Syrian Arab Republic calls on the European Union to adopt a policy that is more balanced and consistent with the principles of international law, United Nations resolutions and human rights instruments, and to immediatly complete and unconditional lifting of the illegal unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrians, and stop the collective punishment policies against the peoples of the targeted countries.
