Sabbagh affirms the importance of strengthening parliamentary relations between Syria and Cuba

Parliament Speaker Hamouda Sabbagh and the Cuban Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Syria Luis Mariano Fernandez discussed during a meeting on Monday ways to strengthen the Syrian-Cuban parliamentary relations.

Sabbagh underlined the clear Cuban position in support of Syria and the Syrian people throughout the years of the terrorist war that targeted the country.

The meeting was held on the occasion of the start of Fernandez’s duties in Syria.

Sabbagh expressed his hope that the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries will grow in all fields, and that the two sides will increase mutual visits and exchange experiences.

He congratulated Cuba’s leadership, government and people on the great achievement of electing their representatives in the National Assembly of Popular Power (Parliament).

Sabbagh wished Ambassador Fernandez success in his new duties in Damascus, in a way that contributes to the development of the Syrian-Cuban bilateral relations.

For his part, the Cuban ambassador affirmed that his country has supported the Syrian people in their war against the blockade and sanctions as well as against terrorism and its supporters and financiers.

Fernandez pointed out that Cuba is still suffering from the unjust sanctions imposed on it by Western powers, but the will of the Cuban people will inevitably prevail.

He said that there are many plans and projects that he will work on as part of his duties as an ambassador of his country in Damascus, foremost of which is the strengthening and development of parliamentary relations.

Ambassador Fernandez noted that his country continues to provide aid and assistance to Syria in the field of biotechnology, vaccines and medicines, to help the country confront both the Corona virus and the repercussions of the devastating earthquake.

In a statement to reporters, Ambassador Fernandez reaffirmed his country’s rejection to interfere in Syrian internal affairs, and its call for liberating all Syrian lands from terrorism and foreign forces.
