Ryabkov,  Griffiths  discuss urgent humanitarian needs in Syria after the earthquake

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov discussed  on Monday with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths the urgent humanitarian needs in Syria due to the  devastating earthquake that hit the country on the sixth of last February.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday  that the two sides discussed, during a phone call, a solution to the problems facing these humanitarian needs.  Ryabkov   stressed  the importance of providing aid to all those in need in Syria in coordination with the Syrian government.

Russia’s deputy foreign minister stressed the need to provide assistance without discrimination and to respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in compliance with the standards of international humanitarian law and the UN General Assembly resolutions.

On the other hand, Ryabkov and Griffiths also discussed mechanisms for implementing the grain deal across the Black Sea which aimed at enhancing global food security, and providing assistance to countries in need in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Particular attention was paid to the task of restoring the “Tolyatti-Odessa” ammonia pipeline.
