Sabbagh meets with Russian Parliamentary delegation

DAMASCUS, Mar.28, (ST)- Speaker of the People’s Assembly [Parliament] Hamouda Sabbagh met on Tuesday with a Russian parliamentary delegation, headed by Anna Kuznetsova, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

During the meeting, Sabbagh stressed the importance of developing Syrian-Russian parliamentary relations, referring to the PA’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the State Duma in a way that achieves the common interest of both friendly countries.

The Speaker praised the humanitarian position of the Russian Federation towards the catastrophe of the devastating earthquake that recently hit Syria and the Russian relief aid provided to those affected, appreciating the great and important role of the State Duma in strengthening joint parliamentary cooperation through its various committees.

Kuznetsova stressed the importance of exchanging experiences or mutual visits, and continuing joint cooperation between the two sides through the concerned committees.

Al-Hilal, Kuznetsova discuss cooperation between the Baath party and the United Russia Party

Moreover, Deputy Secretary-General of the Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal Al-Hilal discussed with Anna Kuznetsova the promotion of parliamentary rapprochement between the two countries and the cooperation between Al-Ba’ath Party and the United Russia Party.

Al-Hilal affirmed the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries, which are consolidated by the Syrian and Russian leaderships, hailing Russia’s support for Syria in the fight against terrorism and during the earthquake ordeal.

He stressed the need to enhance rapprochement at the parliamentary level, indicating that the agreements between the two countries have a major role in overcoming the difficulties.

For her part, Kuznetsova stressed the importance of enhancing coordination during the current stage in order to continue protecting the peoples of the two countries. He affirmed the need to make more efforts to lay the legal foundation to confronting the new colonialism as well as the social and cultural challenges resulting from it.
