(ST)- The Syrian Investment Commission recently included a project, provided by a Russian company, to produce electricity from wind power. The investment cost is estimated at 1210 billion Syrian Pounds in the southern region, whereas the project will provide a capacity up to 450 megawatts and nearly 1100 jobs.
“The project is called (Nusaymat) to generate electricity from wind energy between the governorates of Daraa and Sweida by the Russian Company (Tekh RM Com), where the investment cost to reach 1200 billion Syrian Pounds, 1100 billion Syrian Pounds, including the value of machinery and equipment,” Al -Baath newspaper recently published.
The Ministry of Electricity and the European Complex of Heavy Industries, based in the industrial city of Hisya, signed late last month, a memorandum of understanding to implement a project of wind farms to generate electricity also in the area of al Sindyaneh in Homs with a capacity estimated at 105 MW.
The government is seeking to ensure alternative energy sources, support and encourage the use of solar energy for the provision of other energy sources in light of the continued decline in oil production and the increasing demand for electric power due to the current crisis in Syria since mid-March 2011.
