Moscow, (ST) – The Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Moscow does not rule out any options to respond to Western sanctions. It stressed the ministry’s readiness for any scenarios.
“We do not rule out any options to respond to illegal Western restrictions. We have the appropriate capabilities and tools, and we are ready for any development of events,” said Dmitry Bereshevsky, Director of the Ministry’s Economic Cooperation Department, told Novosti on Monday. “However, Moscow is seeking to avoid extreme measures,” he added.
Bereshevsky pointed out that Russia deals with Western sanctions in a calculated and appropriate manner. He said: We focus on protecting our citizens and local companies and preserving the stability of the national economy and its financial system, and the focus is on moving away from the dollar, replacing imports, and strengthening technological independence.
After the launch of the special military operation in Ukraine, the West escalated the pressure of sanctions on Moscow, and the European Union adopted ten packages of restrictions so far, with an estimated value of at about 11.4 billion Euros for the latest. Russian President Vladimir Putin indicated that these sanctions dealt a serious blow to the entire global economy, and that the main goal For the West is to make the lives of millions of people worse.
