Agriculture Ministers of Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Jordan meet tomorrow in Damascus

The Quadrilateral meeting of the ministers of agriculture of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq will kick off on Sunday in Damascus under the title “Towards Achieving Regional Agricultural Economic Integration”.

During the 2-day meeting, the four ministers will discuss the results of the quadrilateral meetings held last year in Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.

They will also discuss means of enhancing trade exchange and food security, ways of supporting regional agricultural projects and confronting climate challenges and land degradation as well as methods of improving the agricultural production in the four countries.

Dialogue sessions will also be held on the sidelines of the meeting to review the strategies of the agricultural sector and the agricultural calendar of the four countries.

The delegations are due to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation and pay a visit to agricultural scientific research centers in Syria.

Last year, the quadrilateral meetings were held by Iraq in February, Lebanon in July and Jordan in September.

Jordanian Minister of Agriculture: Damascus quadrilateral meeting focuses on facilitating the flow of goods

Jordan’s Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat arrived in Syria this evening coming via Nasib border crossing to participate in the fourth meeting of the Agriculture Minsters of Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Lebanon in Damascus on Sunday.

In a statement to SANA at Nasib crossing center, Hneifat said that the aim of the quadrilateral meeting is to achieve integration between the four countries and to sign a memorandum of understanding that contributes to facilitating the flow of goods among these countries and achieve food security in the Arab world.

Syria’s Minister of Agriculture Mohammad Hassan Qatana, for his part, stressed the need to achieve integration of agricultural policies and calendars in order to facilitate the flow of goods, pointing out that the ministers’ meeting in Baghdad last year discussed forming an economic bloc between the four Arab countries.

Lebanese Minister of Agriculture: Damascus meeting will lay foundation for joint Arab action to achieve food security

The Lebanese Minister of Agriculture Abbas Al-Haj Hasan also arrived in Syria through Jdeidet Yabous border crossing to take part in the quadrilateral meeting.

In a statement to reporters Al-Haj Hasan said the meeting will lay the foundation for broader joint Arab action focusing on the issue of food security.

Tomorrow’s meeting will witness the implementation of what we have agreed on during the three meetings last years with the aim of facilitating the flow of agricultural products, he pointed out.
